I've played the Metal Gear Solid games dozens of times, for a while it was an annual tradition for me to hit the first three. I never played Metal Gear though -- well that's a lie, if you can travel back through infinite time to the days of Ustream you can definitely find a video of me playing Metal Gear for the MSX2. But I got lost and exhausted and the mood of the night took me elsewhere, thus I never finished it. I figured, as a good side stream project, I would finish all the Metal Gear games I never played, more or less in order if I could. That meant starting with Metal Gear.

I'm really happy I played this on an emulator!! I think this game is pretty all right, but the 'gotchas' are so mean. This is a Joker video game, full of funny mean pranks that antagonize the player and make the game longer. They are insanely funny, but when you're kinda crunching on stream there's an imperative to just get the game done. I think I'm fine with never playing this game again, but I'm really glad that I did experience the whole thing.
